Senator Abshir Axmad, the Deputy Speaker of the Senate (Upper House), has urged Somalis in Minnesota to turn out in large numbers and vote for Representative Ilhan Omar.
Senator Axmad sent this message to Rep. Ilhan’s supporters on Tuesday via Twitter.
In his tweet, he reminded the voters that Rep. Ilhan has not been a disappointment since her election. He also told them that her exemplary record speaks for itself.
Axmad also urged voters to look at Rep. Ilhan’s record of fighting for the rights of the minorities while pushing for social reforms and human rights in the United States and abroad.
Ilhan was first elected the US Representative for the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota in 2019.
In the process, she made history by becoming the first Somali-American from Minnesota to hold elective office.
Similarly, she is not only the first woman of color but also the first naturalized citizen of African descent from Minnesota to be elected into office.
If she wins Tuesday’s race, Rep. Ilhan would stand for reelection in November 2020’s polls too.
