Somalia’s Ex-President Returns to Mogadishu from Abroad

Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, a former President of Somalia, returned to Mogadishu on Wednesday, October 28.

Ex-President Ahmed has been on a months-long trip abroad.

Officials from the Forum for National Parties (FNP) were at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu to welcome him back.

Parliamentarians and other dignitaries were also present to accord him a warm welcome.

The former President has been in Nairobi, Kenya in the last few days.

While in Kenya, he held a meeting with the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

The two former leaders discussed several issues including the upcoming elections in Somalia, where they are expected to vie in the February 2021 presidential polls.

Additionally, ex-President Ahmed also traveled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he met several senior government officers in Abu Dhabi.

Reports from the former president’s insiders indicate that he would be traveling to Jowhar, the administrative capital of HirShabelle State.
