Mohamed Mursal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) has announced the formation of a parliamentary COVID-19 committee.
Speaker Mursal announced that the committee would investigate the progress of all COVID-19 measures imposed by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
The committee’s appointment comes at a time when the Ministry of Health said that a second wave of COVID-19.
Mursal said the committee would comprise nine legislators.
The nine legislators would travel around the country collecting information on COVID-19 before preparing a report on the state and effect of the virulent disease.
Furthermore, the committee would also evaluate how the government has used COVID-19 funds from donors and its own coffers.
Mursal indicated that it would also investigate the state of the country’s health infrastructure.
Currently, the East African country has recorded 3,941 COVID-19 cases. The disease has claimed 104 lives.
The health ministry has recorded 3,185 recoveries as well.
