Diplomatic missions in Somalia hailed the recent historic elections held in the regional state of Puntland.
On October 25, Puntland held local government elections.
Puntland was the first regional state in the country to hold one-person-one-vote polls. Voters elected their preferred candidates directly.
On Friday, the diplomatic missions issued a statement on the elections.
The international partners commended Puntland for “leading the way towards the instituting a system that enhances universal suffrage elections in Somalia.”
Furthermore, voters in the three Puntland districts of Eyl, Ufeyn, and Qardho were recognized for their enthusiasm towards the electoral process.
Also, they commended Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) for working closely with political parties and civil society organizations to make the polls a success.
