Somalia’s Justice Minister Linked to FAVORI Rights Abuse

Somalia’s Minister of Justice has been implicated in the rights abuse accusation facing FAVORI over its treatment of airport workers.

Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, the Minister of Justice, recently defended FAVORI over the accusations leveled against it by airport workers.

Consequently, the workers have risen up in arms to protest Nur’s actions.

They have gone as far as calling Nur an agent of FAVORI, a Turkish firm.

The workers reminded Nur that Turkey has fully enforced labor laws that FAVORI or any other firm would never dare to breach.

By defending FAVORI’s actions, the workers accused Nur of aiding a foreign company to operate in Somalia as if the East African nation has no laws of its own.

In their view, the airport workers said that the justice minister has been compromised by the Turkish company.

Some of the rights FAVORI is accused of breaching are unlawful dismissal, sudden salary cuts, oral insults, discrimination, threat of reprisals, and forcing workers to sign illegal documents.
