Somalia’s Lower House Legislators Fail to Meet Because of Lack of Quorum

The House of the People (Lower House) legislators failed to meet owing to a lack of quorum.

The legislators were scheduled to hold a session on Wednesday, June 1.

However, only 70 Members of Parliament (MPs) had shown up for the meeting before Lower House Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe called it off.

The Lower House has 275 lawmakers.

Reports indicate that a majority of the legislators traveled abroad after the conclusion of the recent parliamentary and presidential elections.

They are yet to return to Somalia.

This would have been the Lower House’s first meeting since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won the May 15 presidential polls.
