Somalia’s Maritime Case against Kenya to Proceed on March 15, ICJ Says

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has promised that Somalia’s maritime case against Kenya will continue as previously scheduled.

Kenya had written to the international court asking for postponement of the maritime case that was penciled for March 15.

However, Somalia opposed the request for postponement.

ICJ has already postponed the case thrice before at the request of the Kenyan government.

With ICJ confirming that the case would proceed, Kenya now loses its bid to have the matter postponed for the fourth time.

On February 13, the Hague-based judicial organ of the United Nations rejected Kenya’s latest request for postponement.

Somalia first filed the case against Kenya in 2015.

Kenya prefers an out of court settlement, which Somalia vehemently opposes.
