Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) has registered five new political parties in an event held in Mogadishu on Wednesday.
Consequently, the entities join the list of provisionally registered political parties in the country.
NIEC issued the five parties with interim certificates, which clears them to present candidates for the upcoming polls in the country.
The parties registered on October 7 were the Security and Justice Party, Qaransoor Party, and the Justice and Reconciliation Party.
Others included the Somali Republic Party and Somali Green Party.
Mohamed Mohamud Hassan Sandhere, a Director at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, welcomed the new parties.
He wished them well in the upcoming local and parliamentary polls in December 2020 and the presidential elections of February 2021.
