Somalia’s newly-elected President has promised to strengthen bilateral ties with Ethiopia.
President-Elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud issued this announcement while appreciating the congratulatory message that he received from Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Earlier, the Ethiopian Prime Minister had expressed his desire to “work closely with President Mohamud on common bilateral as well as regional interests.”
In recent years, Ethiopia and Somalia have enjoyed solid diplomatic relations.
Ethiopian forces are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which has now transitioned to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
