Somalia’s New Special Envoy for Drought Response Seeking Closer Cooperation with the Media

Somalia’s new Special Envoy for Drought Response has spoken of his desire to work closely with the media to increase awareness about the prevailing situation in the country.

Abdirahman Abdishakur, who was appointed the Special Envoy for Drought Response, held a meeting with a few representatives from the media in his office.

The meeting took place on Sunday, May 29.

Some of the representatives were from the Somali National TV (SNTV) and Somali National News Agency (SONNA).

Ismael Mukhtaar Omar and Sharma’arke Mohamed represented their respective media organizations at the meeting with Abdishakur.

Omar and Sharma’arke are the directors of SONNA and SNTV respectively.

During the meeting, they discussed the strengthening of the role of state media in the campaign against the drought that affects close to 8 million people in Somalia.

The Special Envoy for Drought Response also appealed for help on emergency drought response from the media.

Omar and Sharma’arke both promised to help the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in the fight against drought and other problems affecting society.
