Somalia’s NIH to Partner with Swedish Agency on Health Statistics

Somalia’s National Institute of Health (NIH) has announced plans to collaborate with a Swedish agency on health statistics.

This follows an agreement that the country’s Ministry of Health signed with the Swedish Public Health Agency on behalf of NIH on October 18.

Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, made the announcement after hosting a delegation of health officials from Sweden.

Johane Carlson, Sweden’s Director of Public Health, led his team in paying a courtesy call on Dr. Nur.

Somalia has struggled with a poor health system for decades.

However, the situation seems to be changing in the recent past.

The government has made concerted efforts to improve the quality, availability, and accessibility of healthcare to all.

That would only be possible if Somalia has accurate data on health.
