Mogadishu, Somalia – The federal Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development has announced the formation of the Interim Executive Committee of the Somalia Evaluation Society (SOMES), marking a major stride toward institutionalizing accountability and evidence-based policymaking in the country.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Mogadishu that convened representatives from government institutions, civil society, academia, the private sector, international development partners, and the United Nations. The creation of SOMES reflects Somalia’s growing commitment to fostering transparency, improving data-driven decision-making, and ensuring development programs deliver tangible results.
The newly appointed interim committee will steer the establishment of the Society and lay the foundation for its long-term operations. The four-member committee is composed of Mohamud Ali Nur, who will serve as President; Ahlam Osman Mohamed, Vice President; Abduljalil Abdullahi Ali, Secretary-General; and Abdikadir Adan Hussein, Treasurer.
Speaking at the event, officials from the ministry emphasized that SOMES will play a critical role in strengthening national monitoring and evaluation capacity, supporting public institutions to measure progress, and ensuring that Somalia’s development agenda remains inclusive, transparent, and accountable.
