One of Somaliland’s most respected army generals has been sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Brigadier General Jama Mohamud Adan Dolal was imprisoned for two years after a Hargeisa military court found him guilty of leaking classified information.
The prosecution proved to the court that Brig. Gen. Dolal had shared sensitive information with his contacts in Somalia.
Somaliland and Somalia do not enjoy cordial relations.
However, the military court absolved Brig. Gen. Dolal of treason charges after the prosecution failed to prove this beyond reasonable doubt.
Somaliland Police Force (SPF) arrested Brig. Gen. Dolal several weeks ago.
They kept him away from his relatives and friends, who kept complaining that Dolal’s health had deteriorated.
