Somaliland Asks for Dialogue between Egypt and Ethiopia on Nile Dam Issue

The government of Somaliland has recommended between Egypt and Ethiopia to discuss and find solutions for the Nile Dam issue.

The two countries are in a diplomatic row over Ethiopia’s decision to construct Nile Dam along River Nile, which Egypt says is critical to its economic wellbeing.

On Sunday, Liban Yousouff Osman, Somaliland’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, asked the two nations to dialogue “for the sake of peace.”

He said Somaliland is ready to meditate the issues preventing Egypt and Ethiopia from seeing eye-to-eye over the construction of Grand Renaissance Dam on Blue Nile.

Furthermore, Osman also reiterated that his country would always recommend “negotiations and dialogue” to avert costly aggressive diplomatic rows.

Osman also pointed out Somaliland’s close relations with both countries, which gives it advantage in acting as a truly objective arbiter.
