Somaliland Bans Importation of Right-Handed Cars

Authorities in Somaliland have banned the importation of right-handed cars into the country with immediate effect.

On Thursday, November 5, the government issued a directive banning the importation of such types of vehicles.

The move is designed to improve safety on the roads and discourage speedsters from creating mayhem along the country’s roads.

The decision was taken following a ministerial meeting.

Somaliland has been importing its right-handed cars mostly from Japan.

However, the government now states that such cars violate traffic rules in the country. Currently, Somaliland has around 8,628 right-handed cars.

Right-hand cars pose a threat to road users since they might force a shift to left-hand traffic, which would cause unimaginable confusion.
