President Muse Bihi Abdi has declared that any person from Somaliland taking part in Somalia’s political activities is committing treason.
He made this decree on December 8.
His comments come in the wake of the ongoing travels to Mogadishu by politicians from Somaliland to vie in parliamentary elections.
Delegates have already elected politicians from the region into public office.
The elected leaders who will be representing Somaliland include Mahdi Gulaid, the Deputy Prime Minister.
Speaker Abdi Hashi of the Upper House (Senate) is also in line to vie during the upcoming polls.
