Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs plans to resign first before vying in the breakaway region’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
Yasin Haji Mohamed Hir is scheduled to tender his resignation to President Muse Bihi Abdi.
Thereafter, the outgoing foreign affairs minister would then vie in parliamentary elections in Sool, his home province.
Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC) has scheduled council and parliamentary elections for May 31, 2021.
According to sources, the foreign affairs minister would then run for the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) once he is elected a Member of Parliament (MP).
