On Sunday, President Muse Bihi Abdi’s government announced the cancellation of any importation of telecom equipment.
The Ministry of Telecommunication and Posts made this announcement in a directive issued on behalf of the government.
In the directive, the telecommunication ministry indicated that the ban would take effect from August 15, 2020.
Further, the ministry never gave any indication regarding how long the ban would remain in place.
In the meantime, the government has promised to maintain the quality of all telecommunication equipment used in the country.
It assured all stakeholders and the public that laws are in place to ensure that the telecommunication industry does not suffer during this period.
Additionally, the government has requested all players in the industry to adhere to the new directive that the ministry issued.
