Health workers in the northern breakaway region of Somaliland are in line to receive the COVID-19 vaccine first.
Dr. Omar Ali Abdillahi, the Minister of Health Development, announced this on January 31.
The health minister made this announcement while receiving the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Somalia, Mohamed Ahmed Othman Al Hammadi.
Dr. Abdillahi’s meeting with Ambassador Hammadi took place on January 31.
Abdillahi and the UAE Ambassador held the meeting to promote and strengthen cooperation between their respective nations in the health sector.
During their meeting, Dr. Abdillahi announced that health workers would be prioritized when the COVID-19 vaccines arrive in the country.
He said that Somaliland would receive part of the 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines that the G20 countries had promised African nations.
