Somaliland’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, recently led a trilateral meeting with representatives from Genel Energy and OPIC Somaliland Corporation (OSC), a subsidiary of Taiwan’s CPC Corporation. The discussions aimed to expedite oil exploration activities in Block SL10B/13, focusing on progress reviews, operational challenges, and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders.
Genel Energy has been actively engaged in Somaliland’s oil exploration since 2012. In December 2021, they entered a farm-out agreement with OSC, transferring a 49% working interest in Block SL10B/13 to OSC. This partnership underscores Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Somaliland through energy sector investments.
The recent meeting reflects Somaliland’s strategic efforts to develop its energy sector, attract foreign investment, and establish itself as a key player in the regional oil and gas industry.
