Somaliland has no plans to print new currency.
Dr. Abdillahi Dahir, the Governor of the Central Bank of Somaliland, announced this on Wednesday.
The Central Bank Governor was responding to reports around the country stating that the government was on the verge of printing new currency.
He offered this assurance during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives Permanent Standing and Ethics Committee.
Dr. Dahir assured the nation that the government was working hard to reduce inflation.
The Central Bank Governor cited politics and clashes as the factors responsible for the rising inflation.
Faysal Yusuf Jama, the Chairman of the Permanent Standing and Ethics Committee, led his colleagues in urging the people of Somaliland to value their local currency.
He urged them to be more patriotic by valuing and using local currency.
