A journalist in Somaliland has announced his intentions to vie in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country.
Hussein Abdi Muhumed Harbi, a veteran journalist, threw his hat into the political ring.
Locally, he is best-known for working as the Deputy Director of Dawan Newspaper, a media outlet under state control.
Since 1991, Harbi has held different roles at various news outlets around the country.
Currently, he serves as Maanta Somaliland News’ chief editor. Maanta is an online platform that curates different news pieces on Somaliland.
The country is scheduled to hold elections later in 2020.
Harbi has forwarded his name as one of the candidates to vie for a parliamentary seat in the Marodijeh region.
The veteran journalist says his career in the media has equipped him to not only initiate but also deliver the change that Somaliland needs.
