Several Members of Parliament (MPs) in Somaliland have asked the government – through the Attorney General – to arrest the leader of UCID Party, Eng. Feisal Ali Warabe.
A parliamentary committee released a press statement in which it expressed dissatisfaction with Eng. Warabe.
According to the MPs, who are mostly in the country’s Lower House, Eng. Warabe has constantly “violated and been disrespectful to the constitution of Somaliland.”
Consequently, the MPs have indicated that they would no longer trust or cooperate with UCID Party’s leader.
Furthermore, the MPs also consider Eng. Warabe guilty of endangering the peace and harmony the people of Somaliland currently enjoy.
The MPs believe that the Attorney General should act speedily to arrest and charge Eng. Warabe in court for inciting the public to rise up in protest against the government.
However, Sultan Mohamed Abdiqadir, who is the Grand Sultan of all Somaliland clans, advised against arresting the UCID leader.
He said the plans were likely orchestrated by President Musa Bihi Abdi of Somaliland to detain Eng. Warabe, who has been one of his fiercest critics.
