An opposition party leader in Somaliland has called for increased protests against the national government.
Abdirahman Irro, the leader of the Waddani Party, urged the people of Somaliland to take to the streets in protest against the government of President Muse Bihi Abdi.
Irro believes that the government plans to extend its term by delaying the national elections scheduled for later this year.
The opposition leader accused President Bihi of planning to interfere with the upcoming polls.
Somaliland is scheduled to hold polls in November 2021.
Irro urged opposition supporters to prepare widely for peaceful protests that would take place around the breakaway country.
The impasse on elections continues after recent talks between the government and opposition parties collapsed.
