Somaliland’s House of the Elders has extended President Muse Bihi Abdi’s term by a further two years.
Parliamentarians debated and voted in favor of term extension on Saturday, October 1.
Somaliland was to hold elections on November 13 this year to elect a new President and a fresh batch of parliamentarians.
For some time, opposition parties have complained about these plans by Bihi and parliament.
Additionally, the parliamentarians also voted to extend their own mandate by a further five years.
Recently, the election committee announced that it would need 9 more months starting from October 1 to prepare for elections.
With the term extensions, Somaliland will not hold presidential or parliamentary polls any time soon.
