Somaliland Police Reject Prisoner Abuse Reports

Somaliland police have rejected reports that broke out on Monday, September 7 of prisoners being abused in police stations around the country.

Yahye Samaysne is the source of the prisoner abuse reports.

According to the Somaliland Police Force, Samaysne is a former police officer responsible for the “baseless” reports of prisoner abuse.

In their rejoinder, the force says the reports by Samaysne are designed to harm the reputation of the police force.

Samaysne is a former Deputy Commander of the Central Police Station in Hargeisa.

The force said that Samaysne developed mental illness, which led to his transfer to the Somaliland Police Force General Command.

However, he moved to Mogadishu instead of reporting to his new duty station.

On his part, Samaysne said that he resigned from the force voluntarily while accusing his former colleagues of committing human rights violations.
