The northern breakaway region of Somaliland is preparing to elect nine Lower House lawmakers this week.
Somaliland is the first region in Somalia to elect Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of the People.
It has elected two MPs, who include Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Gulaid.
The state electoral body has not given the exact timeline for the polls but only stated that the elections would take place this week.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has asked the regional states to elect their MPs before end of November 2021.
For its part, the United States Embassy in Mogadishu advised stakeholders in Somalia to ensure that polls for Lower House seats take place before end of this year.
