Somaliland’s President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, has appointed Jama Mohamoud Egal as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Egal, who previously served as the Minister of Energy and Minerals under former President Muse Bihi’s administration, is recognized for his extensive knowledge and professional experience, which were key factors in his appointment.
In his new role, Egal is expected to implement significant reforms within the NIA, especially as Somaliland faces various domestic and foreign challenges.
The agency is responsible for providing timely and objective national intelligence to the president and other senior officials, establishing priorities for intelligence collection and analysis, and coordinating with foreign intelligence services.
This appointment is part of President Irro’s efforts to strengthen key institutions in Somaliland following his recent inauguration.
Additionally, President Irro has made other significant appointments, including Mohamed Hassan Suleiman Mohamud as the Director General of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, and Ismael Adan Osman as the Presidential National Security Advisor.
