Somaliland President Honors Former Jet Fighter Pilot with National Award

President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland honored a former jet fighter pilot with a national award on Friday, October 30.

Ahmed Dheere was honored for the role he played in 1988 by refusing to bomb Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.

At the time, Dheere’s superiors in the military had ordered him to bomb the city.

Instead, Dheere defied his orders before fleeing to Djibouti where he remained in hiding for years.

President Bihi honored him with a national award.

The President also rewarded the ex-pilot with Somaliland Diplomatic Passport for his remarkable services to the nation.

Dheere also received a title deed to a piece of land in the country.
