Somaliland Says Consultation Would Help to Solve the Impasse over Seaport Deal with Ethiopia

Somaliland says that consultation is crucial in finding solutions to the ongoing impasse occasioned by the seaport deal it signed with Ethiopia on January 1, 2024.

Ali Hassan Mohamed, the Minister of Information, Culture, and National Guidance, said that the international community should lead efforts to solve the impasse.

Somalia opposes the seaport deal that Somaliland and Ethiopia signed earlier this year.

The word from Mogadishu is that the country is ready to go to war to defend its territory. Mogadishu reiterates that Somaliland remains part of its territory.

Further, Mohamed called on the western world to consult with local leaders.

He said that western leaders are renowned for seeking solutions without consulting those affected by the matter in question.

“Airstrikes targeting specific locations will not solve this issue,” Mohamed stated.
