Somaliland and Taiwan have signed an energy and mineral resources agreement.
The two breakaway nations signed the Energy and Mineral Resources Cooperation Agreement on May 23, 2022.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs reported the signing of the agreement.
The signing ceremony took place in Hargeisa, Somaliland at the offices of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
Abdilahi Farah Abdi, Somaliland’s Minister of Energy and Mines, and Allen Lou signed the agreement on behalf of their respective nations.
Lou is the Taiwan Representative to Somaliland.
The agreement lays the legal foundation for the cooperation that Somaliland and Taiwan seek to pursue in the energy and mineral resources sector.
It also sets the stage for the creation of a joint working group that would be responsible for promoting the exchange of information.
The working group would focus on enhancing the exploration of drilling, training, and further investments required for successful cooperation.
