A delegation from Qatar is expected into Somaliland’s capital of Hargeisa later this week. The delegation will arrive via a plane that will also be carrying medical supplies the Qatari government is donating to the Horn of Africa nation.
Somaliland expects the plane to land at Egal Airport in the next few days. Once they land, the delegation will then hand the donation of medical equipment to Somaliland authorities to help test COVID-19.
The delegation is the first of its kind to travel from Qatar to the East African nation. Further, the two countries do not enjoy any diplomatic relations. It is unclear whether Somaliland appealed for the donation or Qatar donated it all as a brotherly gesture.
Diplomas in Somaliland are more excited about the delivery of the medical supplies, which they believe carries more weight than any diplomatic leverage that either country hope to enjoy from the gesture.
