Somaliland to Ignore International Pressure and Honor MoU with Ethiopia

Somaliland will ignore the increased pressure from the international community and honor its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopia.

Dr. Isse Keyd Mohamud, Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said this during his interview with Deutsche Welle.

The minister added that negotiations between Somaliland and Ethiopia regarding the MoU signed on January 1, 2024 are ongoing.

He added that both sides have already established technical committees on the same.

Since January, Ethiopia has come under increased pressure internationally to cancel the MoU with Somaliland, which Somalia considers part of its territory.

On the other hand, Somaliland insists that it has existed as a separate state since 1991.
