Youths in Somaliland protested the decision by the House of Representatives to table a new sexual offences draft law for discussion.
The youths accused members of the Lower House of tabling a draft law that is different from what had been approved previously.
On Sunday August 23, several civil society organizations and human rights groups joined the youths in voicing their displeasure at the latest move by the Lower House.
Somaliland passed the landmark Rape and Sexual Offences Law in 2018.
Since then, several attempts have been made to amend some of the clauses on the law.
The law is crucial in tackling some of the issues that the country grapples with such as forced marriage and adultery.
It also guarantees the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities.
The attempt by the House of Representatives to reintroduce a draft law that fails to tackle these issues has not gone down well with youths, human rights activities, and the civil society.
