Somaliland’s Council of Ministers met on January 21 to discuss preparations for the upcoming local and parliamentary elections.
President Muse Bihi Abdi chaired the latest meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday.
As the meeting kicked off, the ministers urged the House of Elders to ensure that elections for the local council and parliament take place on the same date.
This came after Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SLNEC) set the date for the elections as May 31, 2021.
Furthermore, the Council of Ministers encouraged the three main political parties to set laws and regulations for selecting candidates for the upcoming polls.
The ministers asked NEC to ensure that candidates abide by the country’s laws while campaigning or participating in elections and the preparations.
