Somaliland’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals launched mineral explorations campaign in Berbera, Sahil Region on Saturday, October 10.
Officials from the ministry traveled to the region to facilitate the launching of the campaign.
Experts believe that this region of Somaliland has one of the world’s largest deposits of gypsum. According to the experts, the region probably holds 200 metric tons of pure gypsum.
Consequently, the government has opted to launch the exercise to determine the extent of minerals’ deposit in the region.
However, the region is not renowned for gypsum only. It is rich in several other minerals too.
The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, is yet to provide timelines for the mineral exploration exercise, though.
