Somaliland’s NEC to Replace Voter Cards from February 15

Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced the date when it will start replacing voter cards.

The commission would be replacing voter cards at the district level from Monday.

This was revealed on Thursday when Abdirashid Riyo, the Chairperson of NEC, addressed the media on the commission’s plans.

Riyo stated that the commission is currently in the process of updating the voters’ database at the commission’s headquarters.

As per Riyo’s comments, the commission is evaluating all previous records, especially from 2016 to ensure that everything is up to date.

During his address to the media, Riyo also mentioned that the commission would ensure that the new database has the details of newly registered voters.

Voters who migrated from their initial voting centers would be re-registered and given replacement cards if they want to change their constituencies.

However, Riyo stated that this exercise would only be open to voters outside their districts of issuance.
