Abdirahman Sayli’i, the Vice President of Somaliland, has withdrawn from Kulmiye Party leadership race.
The Vice President had earlier announced intentions to vie again for the post of the 4th Deputy Chairman of Kulmiye, the ruling party.
Vice President Sayli’i released a video message to his followers and the party supporters on October 1.
In the video, Sayli’i says that he withdrew from the race for the sake of peace in Kulmiye Party and the nation.
He said that deep divisions have emerged in his region and the nation following his earlier decision to vie in the upcoming grand convention.
Kulmiye Party is scheduled to hold a grand convention in October. During the event, party delegates would get a chance to vote for new officials.
His withdrawal clears the path for, Mohamoud Sajin, the Minister of Trade in President Muse Bihi Abdi’s administration, to be elected.
Sajin and Sayli’i have both waged an intense battle for the position that the current Vice President of Somaliland holds within the party.
