Three percent of the immigrants who have breached the border between Greece and Turkey are Somalis.
The government of Greece made this announcement while responding to the decision by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to open the borders up for Syrians.
President Erdogan had said his government would open the borders to Europe to accommodate the fresh wave of Syrian refugees expected into the continent soon.
News from Athens show that while Somali refugees make up only 3% of the immigrants, 64% are from Afghanistan.
Pakistanis make up 19 percent of the total number of refugees breading the Turkey-Greece border. Five percent are Turkish, as Syrians make up 4% of the number.
Percentagewise, the breach at the border has also seen a significant number of immigrants from Egypt, Bangladesh, Morocco, Ethiopia, Iran, and Iraq who make up 5.4% of the total.
