Somalis Urged to Arm Themselves as Tensions Escalate in Ethiopia

Somalis in the Ethiopia and the surrounding regions have been urged to take up arms as tensions continue escalating in Ethiopia.

Abdirahman Mahdi Maadey, Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) leader, issued this rallying call on August 21.

He was speaking during an interview with the media on Friday, August 20.

Maadey said that people all over Ethiopia were arming themselves in readiness for war and he couldn’t understand why Somalis were not doing the same.

“The Amhara were recently told to buy arms,” Maadey said.

Furthermore, he asked Somalis to support their brothers and sisters in the region.

The conflict in Tigray has spread out to other places within Ethiopia and beyond thus creating unprecedented fear.

Somalis and Afars recently fought each other in Garbise, an area in the Somali region in Ethiopia.

Maadey dismissed the fight between the Somalis and Afars. Instead, he called the Somalis and Afars brothers who should not allow anything to come in between them.
