Some of the five thousand Somali youths trained in Eritrea are dead.
Abdikarin Kaar, the official spokesperson of the Villa Somalia, confirmed this during a press briefing on July 1.
Kaar confirmed that the regime of ex-President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo had sent the youths to Eritrea for specialized training.
However, many of the youths lost their lives.
The youths were in Eritrea from 2019-2020.
Kaar is yet to specify the exact number of the youths who died while in Eritrea, though.
Nevertheless, he mentioned that many of them died of natural causes. Others lost their lives during the actual training.
There was uproar in Somalia last year that Farmaajo had deployed some of the youths to join the Tigray war between Ethiopia’s government troops and rebel forces.
