JUBA — The Government of South Sudan has officially expressed its unwavering support for Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, joining a mounting regional chorus opposing external efforts to divide the Horn of Africa nation. In a formal press statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Juba confirmed that South Sudan stands resolute alongside the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in protecting Mogadishu’s sovereignty.
The declaration clearly articulates the administration’s stance on the inviolability of Somalia’s territorial boundaries. Authorities in Juba stressed that their diplomatic approach strictly adheres to international legal instruments, particularly the Constitutive Act of the African Union. Through these references, South Sudan has categorically dismissed any diplomatic initiatives attempting to validate secessionist entities, upholding the doctrine that internationally recognized borders remain unchangeable.
This diplomatic move arrives at a pivotal juncture for the region. Juba’s statement functions as a direct counter to recent developments endangering the coherence of the Somali nation. By restating its dedication to a united Somalia, the South Sudanese government has indicated it will not endorse any organization functioning beyond the parameters of the Federal Government. The pronouncement emphasizes that regional stability fundamentally relies on honoring the defined frontiers of sovereign states.
Analysts perceive this action as a strengthening of the traditional connection between the two countries. Somalia’s Federal Government has welcomed the position adopted by President Salva Kiir’s leadership, interpreting it as an unmistakable expression of unity. South Sudan’s concurrence with the continental stance marginalizes elements seeking to circumvent the Federal Government, ensuring that the diplomatic safeguard shielding Somalia’s territorial wholeness remains resilient throughout East Africa.
The Ministry’s communiqué concluded by reemphasizing that Juba’s position is grounded in regional accords and international legal principles. This unequivocal assertion reinforces the diplomatic bulwark Mogadishu has constructed to resist external interference and maintain its national cohesion.
