Leaders of the regional state of Southwest have agreed on presidential and parliamentary elections.
Southwest leaders agreed on the dates for the upcoming elections following a meeting they held in Baidoa over the last few days.
The Southwest Reconciliation Ad Hoc Committee under the leadership of Speaker Sheikh Adan Madobe agreed to hold the polls in January 2024.
They announced the new date on Saturday night.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia had also been in Baidoa to attend the reconciliation conference.
Speaker Madobe kicked off the reconciliation effort in November 2022.
However, the actual conference started on January 17, 2023.
