Southwest President Defends Composition of Federal Electoral Commissions

President Abdiaziz Lafta-Garen of the semiautonomous state of Southwest has defended the composition of Federal Electoral Commissions (FECs).

Lately, the FECs have been under serious attack from opposition politicians who accuse the Federal Government of Somalia (FSG) of filling them with loyalists.

Opposition presidential aspirants currently meeting in Mogadishu have also raised concern over the commissions.

According to the candidates, the commissions need to be reconstituted.

They requested complete disbandment if the government is unable to reconstitute the commissions.

On Wednesday, November 25, President Lafta-Garen defended the commissions.

He said the commissions are full of Somalis of integrity who are capable of performing their jobs professionally.
