Southwest State Denies Opposing FGS-FMS Meeting

President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohammed Laftagren of the Southwest State has denied reports indicating that the region is against the meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).

The meeting between FGS and FMS was scheduled one week ago. It has received praise from within Somalia. Additionally, the international community has also voiced its approval for the meeting terming it crucial for lowering the steaming political tensions in the country.

President Laftagren issued a statement saying, “A committee appointed by the federal government and regional leaders has met and started discussing the venue, date, and agenda of the first FGS/FMS meeting.”

In his statement, Laftagren also talked about the suspicion between the FGS and FMS. He said that the existing suspicion between the two sides has increased fears of political instability among the public.
