Somali Public Agenda (SPA) has termed the newly announced electoral model for Somalia as “achievable.”
SPA said this during its online session held on Thursday, October 22, with Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Head of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
According to SPA, a non-governmental organization in Mogadishu that specializes in research and public policy, the new model is not too different from the old one.
Mahad Wasuge, SPA’s Executive Director, said that the main difference between the two is in the number of delegates.
Wasuge also highlighted the increase in constituencies as the only other discernible difference between the old and the new electoral models.
SPA discussed several other issues with Ambassador Madeira.
Apart from the electoral model, they also talked about security and operational outlooks going into the elections.
SPA and Madeira discussed the security needs of the delegates who would be responsible for electing the country’s new leaders.
Several top military officials attended the e-session, which AMISOM’s Political Affairs Unit organized.
Some of the officials included Lt. Gen. Diomede Ndegeya, AMISOM’s New Force Commander.
Others included Simon Mulongo and Taiwo Babatunde, the Deputy Head of AMISOM and the Head of AMISOM’s Political Affairs Unit respectively.
