Speaker Hashi and Deputy Prime Minister Bury Hatchet over Somaliland’s Upper House Polls

Speaker Abdi Hashi of the Upper House and Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi M. Gulaid have decided to bury the hatchet over their differences on Somaliland’s Upper House elections.

The two leaders have been at loggerheads for months over the composition of the team scheduled to oversee elections of the Somaliland senators.

Their differences caused a huge rift in the elections team that led to the formation of two factions supporting each leader separately.

On September 5, though, Speaker Hashi and the Deputy Prime Minister released a statement saying that they would now work together.

In their statement, Hashi and Gulaid promised to divide the Somaliland electoral committee.

Furthermore, they stated that Somaliland’s senatorial elections would now proceed as per the earlier schedule.
