Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, the Speaker of Somalia’s House of Representatives, or the Lower House, held a closed door meeting with leaders of the Forum for National Parties (FNP).
The meeting took place on Tuesday night.
FNP, a coalition formed by six opposition parties, has been at the forefront in condemning the ouster of the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
On Saturday, the former premier was kicked out of office after 170 legislators of the Lower House voted in favor of the no confidence motion against him.
Since then, political temperatures have increased in the country.
Speaker Mursal met with the two top leaders of FNP. These were Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Hamud, both former presidents of Somalia.
During the meeting, the three leaders talked about the current political impasse in the country, which Khaire’s ouster partly contributed to.
In the past, Sheikh Ahmed and Sheikh Hamud have been critical of Speaker Mursal and the Lower House for being behind plans to derail the country from holding elections on time.
The FNP leadership had also spoken out against Khaire’s ouster, which they said was capable of “disrupting and destroying” the deal reached out in Dhusamareb.
