Abdi Hashi, the Speaker of the Upper House, has said that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is liable for impeachment.
Speaker Hashi made these sentiments on Thursday, December 24.
He referred to the recent decree that Farmaajo signed whereby he postponed all constitutional review processes.
Farmaajo’s decree essentially transferred all constitutional review processes to the next parliament, which is to assume office after the upcoming elections.
While signing the decree, Farmaajo said that the term of the current 10th parliament expires on Sunday, December 27.
However, on Thursday, Speaker Hashi called the directive that Farmaajo signed “unlawful.”
Consequently, he declared that President Farmaajo had opened himself up for impeachment for committing an unlawful act.
