The Special Envoy for Drought Response has extended his gratitude to the United States for the additional $476 million for drought response.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, the Special Envoy for Drought Response, thanked the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for the additional financial aid.
Abdishakur thanked Ambassador Samantha Power, the USAID Administrator, who announced the additional funds during her meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Power and President Mohamud met in Mogadishu on Sunday, July 24.
He spoke on Monday after chairing a meeting on drought response in the nation’s capital.
Abdishakur has now called upon other donor countries to come to Somalia’s aid and contribute to the humanitarian assistance efforts.
Several stakeholders attended Monday’s meeting on drought response.
Apart from the Special Envoy for Drought Response, others included Ambassador Power and James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia.
Ambassadors from the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar were at the meeting too.
